The University of Wolverhampton Business Solutions Centre, partnered with the CAA approved Remote Unmanned Systems Training Academy (RUSTA) is proud to offer this course which will lead to a Permission for Commercial Operations (PFCO) thus providing commercial drone pilots with the skills and qualification to operate safely and legally in UK airspace.

What is RUSTA’s Remote Pilot Certificate SUAS (RPCS)?
RUSTA’s Remote Pilot Certificate SUAS (RPCS) course is CAA approved and offers training and assessment to SUAS, UAV or drone operators that wish to obtain a PFCO from the CAA.
The RPCS course is designed to teach you the skills required to confidently fly within the safety standards and legal requirements set out by the CAA.

This course has been built from the ground up to give you all the tools you need for a successful future in the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) technology, and will be delivered by one of RUSTA’s trained academy staff, who have prior backgrounds and experience in this field whether military or commercial. The qualification that you receive at the completion of the course is a legal requirement in order to operate and offer these services commercially, so where better to obtain it then one of the leading CAA accreditors in the UK.

You will receive breakfast, lunch, tea and coffee throughout the days of the course.

This is the 3 day CAA approved course at a venue in your chosen location.  The price includes ground school, theory examination, Operations Manual ratification and Flight Evaluation.

Day 1 & 2 Ground School 

This is the two day ground school theory element of the course which covers

  • Introduction
  • Air Law
  • Principles of Flight
  • Meteorology
  • CAPS and Lithium Polymer Batteries
  • Emergency Procedures
  • Operations Manual
  • Introduction to Human Factors

At the end of day 2 is the important theory examination part of the RPCS. This is a 70 minute multiple choice paper that will test you on what you have learnt over the two days. You will need 75% or higher to pass. If you happen to fail the Theory Examination you can re-sit the paper for free however at least 10 days must pass before you are able to re-sit.

Day 3 

The morning of day 3 you will complete an Operations manual workshop, you will have the knowledge and skills to complete your Operations Manual to a professional standard that RUSTA deem acceptable.

If you have a minimum of 2 hours flying time within a 3 month rolling period then you can complete your flight evaluation on the third day. However, if you do not your flight evaluation can be scheduled for a later date.

Our instructors have taught candidates all over the world and are fully trained air instructors from the Royal Air Force’s Central Flying Training School. We hold RPCS courses nationwide including Bristol, Chester, Edinburgh, Hereford, Lincoln, Telford and Wolverhampton. Upon successful completion of each element of the course the candidate will be awarded their RUSTA wings and will have the ability to apply to the CAA for their Permission for Commercial Operation (PfCO).
